Race + Religious Wedding Editorial

Parish + Khaleel’s editorial wedding at the historical Race + Religious—located in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans—was absolutely gorgeous and glamorous. There were pops of Eclectic Elegance infused through out the design. It was, obviously, a match made in NOLA!

Race + Religious Wedding Venue; New Orleans, Louisiana

This venue was originally comprised of 3 separate buildings that were purchased in 2003 with the intention of them becoming a family home for Billie + Granville Semmes. In the design and renovation process the Semmes decided to tie the 3 buildings together through a bricked courtyard with a long rectangle pool in the center. This pool sits center stage at Race + Religious and is often time accented with florals or candles to enhance it’s beauty.

Upon entry you instantly feel welcome and at home. That’s purely because it was in fact, a home before it was a wedding venue and it still retains its charms today (more here). Every nook was carefully curated to be both beautiful and lush while always feeling comfortable and cozy.

The couple tirelessly sourced antique French items that had previously been in chateaus across France and even worked with a local antique purveyor in New Orleans. Towards the end of the project the antique dealer, who had become more like a friend, approached the couple about having their wedding on the property. That wedding, the first at the venue, was later featured across multiple publications. The venue you see today, was born.

One of the best options with this venue are it’s rental options. You have the ability to do a single one day rental as you would with any other venue; and also have the option to do an overnight or, a two night rental. With the two night rental you can have your rehearsal dinner on the property as well as have the wedding on the property the next day. The venue includes 5 bedrooms and can sleep quite a few people comfortably. For the luxury experience, I would recommend doing at least the overnight rental as it will allow you to party well into the night (instead of 10pm)!

If you're looking for a UNIQUE and ELEGANT wedding venue (I’ve probably already told you this but just in case : Your wedding venue “becomes your portraits”), then I would highly recommend you set up a tour with Race + Religious and let their friendly staff show you all around! I think once you've been there, you'll be ready to sign on the dotted line.
